Download Microsoft Office 2010 language packs

I know, Office 2010 is pretty old, but some people are still using it. Actually, this week, a friend of mine asked me a question regarding the Office 2010 interface. She has Office 2010 Hebrew installed, and she wanted to change the interface to English.

Some might think it’s all about “Microsoft Office 2010 language preferences”, under the start menu, but it’s not there. You need to download Microsoft Office 2010 language packs.

In order to change the whole interface of Office 2010, all you have to do is to download the right language pack for you. When I say “interface”, I mean changing the language of the software (menus, buttons, help texts etc.) and not just the spell check language.

Language packs are available for free download from Microsoft (by Digital River). You can change the language of the following programs:

  • Access 2010
  • Excel 2010
  • InfoPath 2010
  • OneNote 2010
  • Outlook 2010
  • PowerPoint 2010
  • Project 2010
  • Publisher 2010
  • SharePoint Workspaces 2010
  • Visio 2010
  • Word 2010

Outlook error: Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window

One of my coworkers had some issues running Outlook 2007. When she started Outlook, there was an error saying “Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.”. I tried running Outlook in safemode with no success.

The Problem:

Usually it happens when the file that maintains the navigation pane is corrupted. The file name is “Profilename.xml“, where profilename is the user’s outlook profile name.

This is the navigation pane:

The Solution:

In order to fix the Outlook error: “Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window”, all you have to do, is to reset the navigation pane’s settings:

Click Start + R (Run) -> type Outlook.exe /resetnavpane -> Enter.

Enjoy!

Microsoft Office Picture Manager in Office 2013

If you use Microsoft Office 2013 / Office 365 – you probably noticed that unlike previous versions of Microsoft Office, “Microsoft Office Picture Manager” is not included in Microsoft Office 2013.

The problem

As a matter of fact, this little program was very useful for many not-that-advanced users since it includes some basic and helpful features like crop, rotate, brightness, contrast, red eye removal, etc.

For some reason, Microsoft decided to remove it from Office 2013.

The solution

Actually, it’s really easy to get back Microsoft Office Picture Manager in Office 2013. In order to have it back on your computer, there’s a nice-yet-tricky solution. No, you don’t have to have any other pack of previous versions of Microsoft Office. For our issue, we’re gonna download and install “Microsoft SharePoint designer”, but we’re gonna use only 1 feature of this installer.

This software is free to download, and you don’t need any serial number / activation key.

So let’s begin:

1. Download the installer: (32 bit, 64 bit).

2. Download the installation pack and run it. Don’t forget to click “Customize“.

3. On this screen, click on every program on the list, and choose “Not Available” from the options list:

4. Next, click on the plus sign next to “Office Tools” in order to expand it, and click on “Microsoft Office Picture Manager” and choose “Run from My Computer”:

5. Click “Continue” and enjoy. Microsoft Office Picture Manager is now installed.

Lync 2013 Crashes on startup

The problem

So let’s say you have Lync installed on your computer (part of Office 365 Pro pack). And let’s say everything was working well until one day when Lync began consistently crashing upon startup.

This is what happened on my colleague’s computer. I tried everything: uninstalling Office 365, re-installing Office 365, clearing the registry of any trace of Office 365, used CCleaner to clean the system. Nothing solved it.

After this I tried creating a second user account (with administrator rights) on the system (Win7). It worked once but after logging in again – same problem.

Lync 2013 Crashes on startup.

The solution

At one point, I took a look at the error message I got. It says there was a problem with the “vdpsrc.dll” DLL File. I researched the web for the file, and found that it’s related to the Bluetooth driver. I researched the web again, found this article, uninstalled the Bluetooth software (by Intel) – And TADA. Problem solved.

Don’t try to disable the bluetooth adapter via device manager, it will not solve the problem. Yes. I also tried it.
